Objective

The objective is to develop silk and silk based industry, to train rural youth in silk weaving and to generate employment thereby.

Following are the means adopted to achieve the goal

Training In Silk

The scheme envisages imparting training in silk weaving. The objective is to revamp the silk weaving industry and to generate employment.

Eligibility Criteria to Apply for Training

1. Age: Between 18 and 35 years

2. Education: No formal educational qualification is required

3. Residence: Must be native of Union Territory of Puducherry (or) continuous resident for three years.

4. Period of training: One year

5. Time of submission of application: Month of August (Advt. will be floated in local dailies during July)

6. Commencement of training: In the month of December

Stipend to Trainees: Rs 1500/- per month

The master craftsperson will be paid an honorarium of Rs 500/- per trainee per month subject to a maximum of Rs.5000/- per month and Rs.500/- per trainee per month towards compensation for wastage of raw materials subject to a maximum of Rs.5000/- per month.

Grant To Silk Societies / Agency

To promote societies / agencies for the silk weavers as members after effective implementation of various schemes for silk weaving sector.

Eligibility

The Society / Agency should be registered either as a Co-operative society or under Society Act.

The members of the society should be silk weaving artisans

The Society should deal only with the silkr products produced by the artisans of the U.T. of Puducherry.

Pattern of Assistance

Grant of 2.00 lakhs/per annum is provide to the Cluster / Society / Agency towards Administrative and Marketing expenses for a period of 5 years

Grant Of Margin Money - For Availing the Capital Loan

To encourage the entrepreneur to set up new silk weaving industries or to renew of existing units

Criteria to avail the assistance

The silk unit should be set up in the Union Territory of Puducherry

The promoter should belong to the U.T. of Puducherry by virtue of birth or by residence continuously for 5 years

The promoter should ascertain availability of loan

Loan sanction letter from the financial institution should be produced

The unit should start its commercial production within six months from the date of release of the Margin Money Grant.

The promoter should produce undertaking letter assuring that he will run the unit successfully for 5 years after establishment of the unit

Pattern of Assistance

25% of the loan amount restricted to Rs.50,000 will be released to the bank on behalf of the entrepreneur as margin money
