Before setting up of industrial establishments, the promoters have to obtain clearances from certain government departments / agencies for the proposal. IGB acts as a facilitator to obtain such clearances from the departments / agencies concerned. It functions on Single Window concept.
IGB functions in the Department of Industries & Commerce, Thattanchavady, Puducherry and Director of Industries & Commerce is the head of the bureau.
Not necessary. Applications can be submitted in the IGB.
No. IGB has devised a common application for the purpose. Required numbers of applications along with requisite supporting documents have to be submitted at the IGB. The IGB will scrutinize, segregate and forward the applications to departments / agencies concerned.
It depends on the nature and the proposed location of the unit. It can be classified into five categories as narrated below.
- A unit proposed in an existing building in any Industrial Estate requires clearances only from the Chief Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers (CIF) and Puducherry Pollution Control Committee (PPCC) and permission from the Local Body (LB).
- A unit proposed in an existing building in other areas requires clearances from Chief Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers, Puducherry Pollution Control Committee, Town & Country Planning (TCP), Puducherry Planning Authority (PPA) and permission from the Local Body.
- A unit proposed in a proposed building in any industrial estate requires clearances from Chief Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers, Puducherry Pollution Control Committee and permission from the Local Body.
- A unit proposed in a proposed building in other areas requires clearances from Chief Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers, Puducherry Pollution Control Committee, Town & Country Planning, Land Conversion Committee (LCC), Revenue (REV) and permission from the Local Body.
- A unit proposed without using power requires clearances only from Puducherry Pollution Control Committee and permission from the Local Body.

If submitted in complete shape, IGB will forward the applications within three working days.
The departments / agencies decide on the application within 1 month from the date of receipt of the same. They may seek queries or additional particulars for the purpose.
Yes. IGB has set up a Facilitation Center for this purpose. Nodal officers from all line departments will be present on the afternoon of every Wednesday in this center. The promoters can interact with the departments and know about the status of their application and its future course of action.
The centre is functioning at District Industries Centre, Thattanchavady, Puducherry.
